Bitter weather brings all sorts of challenges, and can force you to deviate from your normal routine. For starters, you’ll want to dress in layers, and probably adjust your workout regimen to one that involves more indoor-based activities. In addition to your clothes and your schedule, your skin may need extra pampering too. Dry air (and brutal winds) can lead to dry skin – a condition that is both uncomfortable and often times unsightly. After all, who isn’t lusting after a skin-kissed, dewy glow?
Over at Bai, we’re proponents of staying hydrated in every way – and that includes keeping your skin soft and moisturized. Here are a few of our favorite tips and products for saving your skin from winter’s dry, dense air.
Sweep away dead, dry skin with regular exfoliation
Smart scrubbing makes room for moisture and nutrients to penetrate, while allowing healthy cells to get to the surface. Whether you opt for a peel, a brush, or a powder, stick to a once-a-day or twice-per-week schedule (depending on the product) and you’re bound to experience a difference.
Minimize your exposure to dry water by taking short, not too hot showers
As it evaporates, water takes the natural oils from your skin with it. So while a hot bath and shower may feel great at the time, it’s bound to leave you worse for the wear. Instead, warm up before you hit the water with a self-heating exfoliating scrub. Or, opt for an oil-intensive body scrub during your bath to help seal in the water.
Feed your face with products that condition as you clean
Soap and detergents further break up and disperse the skin’s natural oils and can irritate the skin. To lock in moisturize, look for a cleanser that’s oil-based, doesn’t foam, and is packed with nourishing ingredients.
Protect your pout
You hate that blistery feeling on your body and face – but it’s even worse on your lips. The key to a permanently soft pucker? Remember to slough away dead skin here, too. Then apply our hydrating hero – a great lip conditioner or balm.
Dab on an emergency balm
Beyond your basic lip balm, we love the idea of a double-duty, universal skin salve. Great for small trouble spots, these products help seal in moisture and soothe extra rough patches.
