What is Bai5?

Bai5 is a line of naturally sweetened 5 calorie, antioxidant-infused beverages packed with flavor and not sugar. Bai5 is sweetened with organic stevia and a natural plant based sweetener called erythritol. In addition to being naturally sweetened, Bai5 is infused with antioxidants derived from organic coffeefruit and white tea. Bai5 is also non-GMO,  gluten free, soy free, BPA free, kosher, vegan, low glycemic and free of artificial colors and preservatives.

What does “Bai” mean?

Bai is the Mandarin Chinese word for “pure.” It’s also an acronym for “botanical antioxidant infusions.”

I saw you at Costco but can’t find you. Where can I get it now?

You can find Bai5 at major supermarket chains, retailers and specialty shops throughout the U.S., online via Amazon and Fresh Direct, and at a growing number of U.S. airports. To find a retailer near you that sells Bai5 visit our Store Locator!

When did Bai launch?

Bai was founded by entrepreneur and coffee industry pioneer Ben Weiss and launched in its hometown of Princeton, N.J., in August 2009. The company has grown steadily ever since and expanded into national distribution in 2014 through an agreement with Dr. Pepper Snapple Group.

How many calories are in a serving?

As our name suggests, there are 5 calories per serving of Bai5, making it an ideal alternative to the many high-sugar, high-calorie beverages on the market today. The natural sweeteners used in Bai5 — organic stevia and erythritol — are metabolized in such a way that they have no caloric impact, as opposed to refined sugars or other processed sugar substitutes. These “smart sweeteners” are the key to Bai5’s distinctive combination of great flavor and low calories.

What is the level of caffeine in your beverages?

Bai5 contains 70mg of caffeine per bottle, or 35 mg per serving – an amount similar to that found in a cup of green tea, and less than what you would in a typical cup of coffee. The caffeine in Bai is derived white tea extract and organic coffeefruit.

Why doesn’t Bai5 taste like coffee?

The flavor that we associate with a traditional cup of coffee comes from the roasted bean. Since Bai5 only uses the fruit of the coffee plant and not the bean, it has no coffee taste. Instead, Bai5 offers refreshing fruit flavor, with natural low-calorie sweetness that comes from organic stevia and erythritol. The coffeefruit contributes a powerful antioxidant boost to Bai5, but does not impact its flavor..

How long can I enjoy my Bai5 for after I’ve opened it?

Once opened, we recommend you refrigerate your bottle of Bai5. This should allow it to last 3-5 days. But something tells us you won’t be able to last that long before polishing it off.

Does Bai5 need to be refrigerated?

While we believe our Bai5 drinks taste best cold, this is a personal preference. We do recommend refrigerating Bai5 after opening to ensure Bai’s highest quality standards because we use no preservatives. And, remember, shake well before drinking!

I’m a retailer, how can I sell Bai5?

What is an antioxidant?

Antioxidants are natural substances found in foods and beverages that defend the body against cell-damaging, unstable molecules known as free radicals and stop the destructive process of oxidation. Read our Q&A for more information.

What are the varieties of Bai5?

We have ten refreshing flavors: Brasilia Blueberry, Malawi Mango, Ipanema Pomegranate, Molokai Coconut, Costa Rica Clementine, Tanzania Lemonade Tea, Sumatra Dragonfruit, Congo Pear, Panama Peach and Limu Lemon.

From where does Bai5 get its amazing flavor?

Bai has conducted extensive research and formulation to blend the finest natural ingredients into the distinctively bold flavors found in Bai5. Fresh fruit flavors are combined with two all-natural sweeteners — organic stevia and erythritol — to form Bai5’s uniquely delicious recipe.

How do your flavors get their names?

Ever pluck a pear in the Congo? Ever peel a clementine in Costa Rica? OK, probably not. Confession: Neither have we. But we crafted our Bai5 flavor names to playfully pay homage to the world’s coffee regions, celebrating the lands where our powerhouse superfruit — the coffeefruit — comes to life. While we at Bai are serious students of how to create great all-natural flavor, we may have missed a geography class here and there. Meanwhile, enjoy a pomegranate in Ipanema … if you can find one!

These taste so good, are they really natural?

Yes! Bai uses only natural flavors, sweeteners and colors to create our fresh, delicious, 5-calorie beverages for consumers who desire healthy alternatives to high-calorie drinks full of processed ingredients.

What is the source of antioxidants in Bai5?

Bai5’s antioxidant concentration comes from both the coffeefruit and white tea extract, with polyphenols as the main antioxidant.

So is there coffee in this?

No, each bottle of Bai5 is made with coffeefruit extract—the fruit that surrounds the coffee bean. Coffee itself is derived from the roasted coffee bean, which is not found in Bai5. We like a nice cup o’ joe as much as the next guy, but it’s not in Bai5.

Why does Bai5 have added white tea?

White tea is added to Bai5 for flavor, as a source of added antioxidants and for a gentle lift of natural caffeine to give Bai5 consumers a little extra energy as a healthier alternative to the many over-caffeinated, over-sugared drinks on the market.

How much sugar is in Bai5?

There is one gram of sugar in each 8 oz. serving of Bai5. Many sodas, juices and iced teas on the market today are loaded with sugar, with between 23 grams to 31 grams of processed sugar per serving.

What is erythritol?

Erythritol is a natural, plant-based, low-calorie sweetener. It is used in combination with stevia to balance out the bitterness that people often taste with stevia. Erythritol was created in 1848 by a British chemist named John Stenhouse from a number of different plant-based sources and was commercialized in the 1970s in Japan.
